Step right up…

…and witness the humble beginnings of Internet Vaudeville. What is Internet Vaudeville, you ask? Actually, I seriouly doubt anyone’s asking that – BUT YOU SHOULD BE. I’ll take this opportunity to explain proactively.

First, what is vaudeville? As is often the case, Wikipedia gives a better explanation than I could. The short version is that it’s a form of variety theater that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. It featured an eclectic mix of performers, lecturers, and curiosities. It faded away because it was unable to compete with cheaper to display moving pictures.

So what is Internet Vaudeville, I imagine hearing you ask again? Well, in the spirit of the way that most people use services like YouTube, Internet Vaudeville it’s a variety show that I present to you by providing a list of links to eclectic media. In the coming days, I hope to put together a few short budgets of entertaining videos, and a rubric that, in my fondest dreams, other people will use to post their own programs of Internet Vaudeville.

To get us started, here’s a small budget of YouTube videos. Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and see the performing wonders of the modern age!

SEE Michael Ammar perform the classic cups and balls!

SEE a 100-year-old film of amazing acrobatics!!

SEE noted astronomer Phil Plait expound upon the mysteries of the cosmos!!!

SEE a rather well-dressed chap astound you with amazing juggling!!!!

SEE a mind-boggling array of mechanical devices!!!!!

Right, well, I hope that gives my imaginary readers a taste of the sort of thing that entertains me, at any rate. We’ll see where this goes, if anywhere.
